Public Lands Issues

Gunnison County is home to over 2,000,000 acres of public land, almost 82% of the county. While many people have different reasons for calling Gunnison Valley home, it’s access to these lands and the ability to play outside that keep many of us here.

The Innovative Finance for National Forests (IFNF) project leans into existing collaborative relationships between Western Colorado University, the US Forest Service, and Gunnison County to develop financing models that will bring vital recreation infrastructure and services to the Gunnison National Forest, achieve sustainable socio-ecological and financial outcomes, and train a new generation of land managers.
